Just doodle it!
Two neurological charities, Epilepsy Action and The Neurofibromatosis Association, are urging the nation’s doodlers to put pen to paper and join celebrities by taking part in the fifth National Doodle Day on 7 March 2008.
The event, which grows bigger each year, raises vital funds and awareness for the two charities.
This year’s theme is ‘Just Doodle It’ and it appears as though many celebrities have done just that. Amongst the famous people lending their support to the campaign is Dr Mark Hamilton, medic, broadcaster and resident doctor on BBC Radio 1’s ‘Sunday Surgery’.
Those who take part in this year’s event will follow in the footsteps of a host of around 750 famous names, including Holby City’s Kelly Adams; sports personalities Alan Hansen and Sir Bobby Charlton; Turner Prize winning artist Grayson Perry; TV presenter Gaby Roslin; Dancing on Ice star Suzanne Shaw; and comedians Ricky Gervais, Jo Brand and David Baddiel.
An online auction will be launched on eBay on National Doodle Day and will run for 10 days, giving people the opportunity to buy their favourite celebrity doodle. People can also vote for their favourite celebrity doodle by text. Details about how to do this can be found on the National Doodle Day website www.nationaldoodleday.org.uk
Everyone can take part in National Doodle Day by picking up individual entry cards at branches of Lloydspharmacy for a £1 donation. Lloydspharmacy is also providing £1000 in cash prizes for the winners of the individual Doodle Day competitions.
Lesley Treharne-Martin, key events and charities manager for Lloydspharmacy, said: “Lloydspharmacy is delighted to support National Doodle Day in its fifth year. It’s a very special event, and it’s great to be able to work with these two very worthwhile charities.”
Doodle cards can be obtained from Lloydspharmacy. Closing date for entries is March 31 2008. You can also visit www.photoboxgallery.com nationaldoodleday where you can create your very own doodle day products.
